I think he meant lose near a mailbox, while having them in a box with your address on it.

I remember the first time I lost something like that... It was about 20 bucks somewhere near the petstore. Oddly enough a tarantula showed up in a little plastic container in my car... I've lost way too much money like that. I had no other choice but keep it. I think it liked it so much it had to call some friends over to stay with me too. They also robbed me...

If it was me, I would show myself researching and full of information on how to house and what to feed and just seem like a total buff! then I would talk about the care for the animal, how it wouldnt get out, how it wouldnt be hold and this would be a good responsibility lesson for you.
Batter eyelashes, be all sweet and im SURE you will be able to have one before you move out!

A Pandinus Imperator is a good place to start! You could let Mummy know that they have a "low venom" and would rather pinch then sting
and im sure acting all mature and wise on the subject you would be able to own one
