Subject: heat pad for emps 12/10/2008, 12:09 am
i was wondering if it was better to put the heat pad on the side of the tank or underneath it..i have mine on the side..i was only wondering because i heard it was better to put it on the side but my friend has his on the bottom and both of our tanks read the same temp., also my scorps stay on the side where the pad is and his emps roam throughout the entire tank...any suggestions would be great

Side is a MUST for emps. Emps are burrowing species that will dig to escape the heat and if hte heat pad is on the bottom they'll get toasted. Good job.

If a scorp feels too hot, it burrows to escape it -- you can imagine what happens if a scorpion only burrows to a warmer area in doing so.
I've heard of at least one person actually having a scorp die from this. True, not a huge amount of losses out there, but it's a risk I'd rather not take.

I have mine on the side, the bottom doesnt actually...well in my case not hurt them...ive noticed that they burrow on the other side of the heat mat if they want to escape the heat....
but I would suggest the side, just to make sure xxxx
