| Has anyone ever heard their emps hiss? All three of mine hissed at me at some point today while I was transferring them. At first I thought it was just them scuffling around on the substrate, but it wasn't! They were hissing. I thought that I was just crazy at first I remember Kejser posting about a hissing scorp, but I didn't know that emps could do it, too! | |

| I've had an adult male hiss at me. I believe my H. longimanus has, as well. | |

| I thinl I may have heard my adult female hiss... either that or it's just the sound of her joints moving. | |

| Yup, you can hardly hear it unless it's one of the few noises in the room. I had been nudging the emps slightly and they would spin around and hiss. I would try to get it on camera, but they're settling into their new home and I don't think that the cam would pick up the sound since it's so quiet. | |

| I have heard my emp his and it is still doing constantly. i have checked the temp and it is good the humidity is good and im using the same substrate that it was on when i bought him but he still hisses and it is getting really annoying. Whats really weird is when i have my tv on and he hisses it makes fuzzy lines on the tv. I dont really know to much about emps but from what i read it is an attack mode thing. he is the only one in the tank so i dont know whats going on. Could it be the four dogs i have or the 3 fishtank filters i have in the same room.PLZ Help before i get rid of it | |

| whats chatbox??? i wouldnt bother with the heatmat at all,, if you have a heatlamp then i would just use that. you dont put the mat underneath cois they love to burrow and im sure it must confuse them cos they burrow to get away from the heat. | |

| I've read that the scorps make that noise by rubbing their claws together. Idk how true that is but it seems plausible. | |

| I'm not sure they use their claws, but different species of scorpions have been known to "stridulate," as it's called, with differing parts of the body. Some with use their mouth parts while others the tip of the "tail." Here is a link to what other hobbyists have experienced: http://www.venomlist.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=19556 | |

| I think i also remembered seeing those reasons as well. They are weird like that, but it would be interesting to watch them make that sort of a noise. | |
