| well, went to check on the tarantula today, saw her sitting in her hide/burrow with.... what looks like..... AN EGGSACK! i've just recently added another heatmat to the viv, because it was to cold. now it seems she has rolled an E-sack... I'm not sure if this is good or bad. any advice on what to do? should I dig her out of the burrow and pull the sack? i'm awestruck. I though the has a subadult. i'm not 100% it's a sack, but sure as hell looks like it. she is holding it under her body with her fangs. and when I opened the lid of the viv she SHOT back down into her burrow. she has also webbed up the imediate area of the burrow. | |

| Rose-hair? Sounds like a sac. Lori's had one summer '07 and when we pulled it there were over 400 eggs. The slings are still ridiculously tiny -- they grow slower than Hadogenes, I think. The cold period of time is often referred to as a "cooling period" and helps in getting Ts to produce sacs. Your best bet, in my opinion, is to leave it with her for a month or so and then pull it. If it hatches in the tank you'll have hundreds of slings running amok. I'd search through the archives on AB for tips on what to do with the sac once you get it out. Congrats, by the way! | |

| its best just to leave Rosies alone to be honest, dont even offer her any food, if she gets stressed she will eat the sac | |

| Yeah, deffinetly, i'm keeping disturbance to a minimum. but I can't just leave the sack in there, what about removing it and the incubator and all that stuff. this wasn't really expected to be honest. | |

| What Lori did with hers was take the sac out after about a month (the female was wandering about so we just put a strawberry basket over her and got the sac with some tongs).
Then she got a rubbermaid shoebox-size tub, put a layer of wet paper towels in that, put a few plastic cups on the wet paper towels, and put a paper cupcake liner in each plastic cup -- then she put some of the eggs into each cupcake container.
-------------lid----------- --------------------------- --------------------------- --------------------------- ------------eggs---------- ---paper cupcake liner-- --------plastic cup-------- ----wet paper towels---- --rubbermaid shoebox--
After nearly forever, they finally turned into eggs with legs and eventually made it to first instar.
Second instars, IIRC, were then separated into deli cups with a bit of cocofiber. | |

| our Haplopelma Vonwirthi is getting as fat as that pic now Many congratulations on the egg sack and good luck with it all... you will have a lot of mouths to feed Stigg said you are incredibly lucky, the female will usually eat the male before copulation begins!!! These are notoriously difficult to breed. | |

| Lisa, I had no idea these were difficult to breed... I thought with all the speciemens on sale worldwide they would breed like sewer rats! - Quote :

clicky wow. that is a hell of a lot of mouths to feed. and I'll need quite a lot of containers. well, hopefully there won't be as many as 400, 200 or so would be the optimum range lol. i've also found a few people who may be willing to give them a home. 2 of them are teachers, LOL. but, I've still got my fingers crossed she won't eat the sack, dump it, or whatever. it seems to be pretty humid in the burrow at the moment though... is that a cause for concern? it isn't MEGA humid, but there is a wee bit of condensation where the burrow meets the side of the tank. | |

| She has clogged up the entrance to her burrow with substrate. I take it this is normal?
if I were to hazard a guess I would say it is to.... keep humidity levels high? | |

| Mom spider knows best. Just let her do her thing. I'd suggest waiting at least a month before trying to pull the sac. - LadyRiotControl wrote:

Lori had no problem at all breeding hers -- the male even got fanged once (tried mating in her burrow; too crowded) and went on to live for almost another year and several more matings. | |

| well, nothing much has happened. she has sealed herself in her burrow with the sac.
I think she will probably stay like this 'till I pull the sac. | |

| well, turns out I am not that lucky.
I found the sac outside the burrow, looked mangled. I took it out to look inside and see what state the eggs were in. some are dried up ( only a few ), and others look allright. i'm in a little bit of pain, she was not a happy bunny when I put my hand in and lifted the sac, she popped out and kick hairs all over my hand, it's itching like hell. and my nose is red and itchy as well.
anyway, the eggs look fertile, they have a yellow tinge and I can see white bits inside them.
what do I do with this sac?
http://www.arachnoboards.com/ab/showthread.php?t=17496 will that work? what do I do?
I'M So <very> frustrated right now, I just wanna kill something.
please, help. the sac is out 15 days early... wth do I do?

| ok... I've put the sac in that incubator thing like the one on the link, and put it beside a heatmat for warmth. moist paper towels at the bottom. | |
