PostSubject: Second time lucky   Second time lucky Empty5/30/2014, 2:18 pm

Some time ago I posted that my dear Lillith a P. Trans had a delivered an estimated 80 slings. Well I panicked and made some poor decisions. So for those who wish to benefit from my experience;

I observed her eating some of the slings so I separated her from the slings. MISTAKE, I was to later establish that she was cleaning up the still born slings by eating them.

I had them all in a temperature and humidity controlled environment on slightly damp paper towel.

The next problem was that 90% of them made it through the first moult and then the casualties started. About 20 made it to 3rd instar and only one is at 4th instar and doing well. 1/80 is a very poor record and I am rather ashamed of myself.

Now if my memory serves me she gave birth on the 19th October 2013 which makes her current gestation period roughly 7 months so she will be ready soon. I plan this time to leaving her totally alone, if she eats half I will still be better off.

Wish me luck, will post when she pops. If anyone has any advice so I can be better prepared I would welcome this.

Nope but I can see embryo's through the abdominal wall (or she has kidney stones(  Very Happy .

I did a google search yesterday which indicated that many scorpions are able to have 3 - 5 broods with one insemination. There was a thread on Arachnoboards I think. The thread went on to mention that Buthids are particularly prone to this and one poster claimed that he did know of one Buthid that did not deliver more that on lot of slings for one breeding.

Did I read correctly?

Yip, they can store sperm from previous matings. I mate the female again after a brood just to make sure but if you can see the embryos then there's no problem Smile
