| I was looking at Mike's protype and when I was working on some Christmas decorations (I know its early but my family does it big) I got the idea for some backdrops. My plan was to use two inch styrofoam and with a heat gun and soldering iron I would make the surface look like rocks. Then I would spray it with texture paint that makes it look like rocks and then spray it with a clear to seal it.
The problem is...will this be toxic to the scorpions? My guess is doublesided sticky tape will work well for adhesive or maybe even velcro for easy removal. Any ideas?
My first backdrop will be for my C. sculpturatus. I found most of them on the brick walls in my backyard. So I thought it would be kind of cool to simulate were I found them.

| i think if you let it air out for a few days and wash them it should be fine. Sounds like a good idea I wanna see pictures. | |

| Sounds really cool, if you could perfect the process you could make many species specific habitats (they could even sell if safe enough). | |

| they sell them in the local pet shops but are ridiculously priced. This would cost about $30 to make 9 or so 10 gallons backings | |

| I'm moving into my new house in about a month so I am in the process of designing a new animal room. No ideas yet. | |

| I've seen people do this before, but I think it was with T enclosures.
Like Eddy said, air it out for a while and it should be fine. Make sure your sealer is completely cured and not at all water-soluble if you use it in a tropical tank (desert tanks shouldn't have any problems like that).

| another way to make it look like rocks is to use tile grout and sand, gives it the look and the texture | |

| That's a pretty good idea Graham, but it might get a little heavy. Right now my communal tank ways like 50 pounds with all the rocks and bricks I have in it. | |
