breeding of haplopelma sp. 'vietnam' - 1st ever T breeding attempt

Yeah!!! lol, does look absolutley nackered, how do T's deposit sperm anyhoo? does the male have slits in his 'palps where it comes out or what?

did she do that to his legs ??

i think hes in that position cuz when lisa tried putting him back he took the threat position and fell that way lol

On the end of each pedipalp there is a sperm bulb (pre-loaded with sperm from a sperm web they create earlier, the sperm can go 'dormant' and can stay in there quite a while)
When copulation occurs the embolus on each sperm bulb raises up and these are put into the female.. with great care.

On the front of each first leg there are 'hooks' these are to hold the females fangs so he doesn't get bitten. by holding these the male can get himself and the female in the right position for copulation to happen.

Yeah we managed to get the female back into her burrow (male was too knackered to move) and we put a bottle (bottom cut off) over him, gently maneuvered a plastic lid under him and transferred him back to his tank.
As I released the plastic lid (about 4" from the substrate) he started a threat pose half way through the short drop and landed on his back lol! Had to get a picture coz he looked so funny!
2 minutes later he was right way up.

He's been sat in the corner of his tank all day.. recovering!

i'm not bad at sexing T's, but I didn't know how they did it.
