| Can 4th and 5th instar B. jacksoni be kept communally as long as they are fed properly? They all molt once a month, so it's pretty easy for me to determine when they're going to. Right now I have 3 of which that are 4i, and 2 of which just molted into 5i. They're all from the same brood, so the other 3 should be molting into 5i very soon.
Thanks! | |

| Well, I know they're communal, but I'm worried about cannibalism during molts. | |

| It more likely to happen with b.jacks. I suggest you wait till theyre adults. | |

| Alrighty. I'll just wait. I'm pretty sure the ones that just molted are now 5i. You can really notice the bulbous chela now in the males. What instar would you say? | |

| How would you tell then?
They were REALLY small when I got them. I'm guessing they were 2i (Adam had them advertised as 2i-3i). This is the 3rd time they're molting in my care. | |

| I can tell by the chela that's an adult male -- if you have females, they'll require another molt and end up being a bit larger than the males. | |

| Here was my boy when he matured: . . . maybe a little bigger than yours, but not by much. And here he is with his lady-friend: You can see that the females get to a decent size compared to the males. Just for the heck of it, here's a shot of a mature male beside an immature female -- same size, but note the difference in chela: | |

| Thanks, Mike. That was very helpful! Next month my females should be mature then and I'll have all 5 of them living together. Hopefully they'll make lots and lots of babies Anyone know gestation time? | |
