Here's a comparison of the metasoma difference between the two. I used to think that A.mauritanicus has the fattest metasoma until I received this A.australis. Both specimen are male.

I've never seen an A. australis metasoma that chunky before -- that's intense!

If you're suggesting it is P. mossambicensis, tsk tsk :p

Parabuthus have much thinner metasomas compared to Androctonus. They also have much more setae on their metasoma.

That is seriously one monster A. australis. Hope mind grows to look like that lol. He's just a 2nd instar now

Might be some kind of color morph of another A. species....I had an adult A. bicolor that was yellow once. Well one molt away from adult.

The A. mauritanicus only looks small next to your freaky ogre A. australis. I'm still amazed at that. I don't know how he can even hold his tail up without falling sideways. I hope you are going to use is as a breeder.

So I am still unsure about the whole cross-breeding thing.

I never had an adult A.australis before. Are the males A.australis supposed to have a chela notch like A.mauritanicus male?

Most Androctonus spp. can be kept communally as adults, so I wouldn't be surprised if two species from the genus could get along for a few minutes.
