| I have a heterometrus species for about a year and in the pet shop they told me he was there for at least a year. Is it mature yet ? and if not when will it be ? Thank you | |

| Hello and welcome to the forum.
Has the scorpion moulted during it's time at the pet shop or with you? If it hasn't it's almost definitely an adult, if it has, it again my have had it's final moult and it's mature or it may still be growing and not have reached 7i yet.
Can you provide a picture of the scorpion?

| It looks a little small to me…but it could just be a small adult. As for the sex you need to provide us an underside shot of it’s pectines (wing looking things). Welcome to SF | |

| Do you know when the scorpion last shed its skin?
I'd hazard a guess at it being female as it looks like the operculum is triangular and the pectines are fairly small and sit quite far apart, but...... I'm crap at sexing scorpions (especially species I don't keep) and it's difficult to see the operculum clearly. Any chance of a better picture?

| Oh I didn't see the pectines shot. My Screen is minimized so I only saw the first and last one. I say female too. | |

| Looks to be either an H. petersii or an H. laoticus, try to get a clear pic of the carapace if you can.
I'm not sure on the sex, the first pic is at an odd angle so I can't see the operculum, and the second pic is too blurry.
Anyway, a scorpion is ready to mate any time in its adult life.

| these 2 pictures were taken by iPhone (first one is with flash) [img] [/img] I also measured him ( with snake measure tool ) for so you can easily determine if it is an adult or not And he/she is 11 cm long 4.3 INCHES (that is from the tail to the head or his mouth) [img] [/img] You also asked me for more pictures to determine if it is a H. laoticus or H.petersii [img] [/img] [img] [/img] Poor guy got his tail cut of by the pet shop I kinda rescued him because he was in really bad shape his enclosure was really dry with almost no substrate or hideouts [img] [/img] [img] [/img] I can't get a picture underneath him because he is hiding in the burrow and i do not to disturb him. As soon as he gets out i will take a good picture of him so you can determine the sex until then thank you for all the comments and answers see you soon | |
