I have and currently use Eco Earth. Your gonna want the substrate to be damp. Not too wet where it's muddy though and not too dry. What I did was boil water, put the brick in, let it cool for a minute and then I'd squeeze handfuls of it to let out excess water and I was good to go.

Bedlam said it right ill just add on.it doesnt necessarily have to be boiled water you can use some aged water as well.
they say to let it dry because they dont know what your using it for.in the future if you get something that requires some dry eco get a bag of it loose so you dont have to wait a year for it to dry.
cheers for emps!

Typically, I leave a bucket of water overnight to let the minerals and metals to evaporate off, or if in a hurry, I use a water treatment. I've treated my water always since frogs. I let it expand for about 30 minutes, make sure it's not too wet, then set the tank up.
