| Ok all.
I have decided that I most definitely would like to try my hand at keeping one/some of these.
I have read through every Jacksoni post on this site and am still a little confused at how you determine, sub-adult versus adult.
I know that instar has a lot to do with it, however, if you don't know what instar it is when you get it, what are some ways to tell? For example, emperors have different colored telsons. I haven't seen anything that shows this is an indicator for jacksoni.
Also, what instars are considered sub-adult?
Thanks much. | |

| Yeah Bex, I figured I was gonna have to wait for some Non UK keepers to chime in. Poor thing, I think that blows about your DWA laws or whatever. | |

| found this on sexing... https://scorpionforum.darkbb.com/t3584-male-or-female-b-jacksonialso B.jacksoni, male or female. Their max size is around 85 mm, but I never seen a specimen that large. Specimens around 2inches could be adult, and if there are specimens that have significant larger chela, these would be the males and yes they are adult then. Males mature at instar 5 and females at 5 or 6. Scorpions are measured from the edge of the carapace to the tip of the aculeus. If you see bulbous pedipalps, it's a mature male. If you have one the same size as a mature male but without bulbous pedipalps, it's a subadult female. As mentioned, females go through one more molt. The difference between subadult and adult in females is quite substantial, especially in the size of the metasoma. in some occaisions a female turn mature at instar 5 and others in instar 6. In my experience, most of them turn adult in instar 6. It is not uncommon in some buthid genera, that females molt one more time, than males. just pulled that of the venom list site ?? dunno if it helps at all ? | |

| Thanks Bex.
Yeah I read that thread but couldn't see the Mordax pictures, thought it was just my work computer blocking them, but I'm on my home computer and still can't see them.
Ok, so the way I'm reading this, they are subadult when they come off the momma and adult once they have reached their final instar. Is that how you read it?
Do you have a link to that venom list site? | |

| Anna you cant really tell..
if it measure 3 inches, it will be an adult.. you have to have smaller ones to notice the final moult. From here on you know when its a fresh adult.
My advice to you would be to look for juvenile Bjs and raise them. You will know when they reach adulthood when they reach that 3 inch mark and you will know you dont have old scorpions.
