Backdrop and Terrarium Idea's Empty
PostSubject: Backdrop and Terrarium Idea's   Backdrop and Terrarium Idea's Empty3/21/2013, 11:35 pm

Hey all. So recently I've been researching on how to make backdrops in terrariums, but all I see is how to make them out of spray foam and styrofoam. Call me old fashion, but I'd prefer methods that seem a bit more natural. So this is just a discussion on basically all things backdrops and terrariums. What are some other ways we can achieve a natural looking backdrop that is both functional, and natural looking, without the use of foam and other crappy stuff. For instance, would excavator clay (or any other clay) work well as a base to make the backdrop for a desert setting?

Zoo Med makes a cork tile that comes in sheets...gives a tree bark look. Other options would be large floor tiles or linoleum squares from Home Depot or Lowes that have a rock look to them.

I always worry about putting a backdrop as my terrariums have the heating pad stuck to the back.

Keep in mind any cork or foam backdrop will limit the amount of heat getting through to the vivarium from the heat pad

If using a bulb set up then it might actually insulate and keep heat in
