| This is the Flat Rock I'm to receive, not entirely sure what kind it is and the photo I've been given is not the best quality so I will hope to get a nicer photo soon, due to terrible weather conditions around the UK at the moment I'm forced to delay shipping for another week, which I shan't lie is slowly getting to me ha! Anyway here's the photo: Any ideas what species this is? Any noticeably unhealthy traits?.. Many thanks, George | |

| Very fast response! Thank you Abyss, hopefully over time I'll be able to sex these myself I understand that they are non-communal, perhaps after a while if I acquire a male and feed them up; are they a hard species to mate? | |

| Mating is same as any other scorpion they'll tolerate each other for a few days before cannibalizing. Yeah I had just posted a picture up so I was already on this forum section when you posted your question LOL. I'll try not be so quick to answer next time . | |

| Thank you very much! and ha yeah, I've only recently made my return to collection of exotics and it was tough enough to ween myself off of the reptiles, now I'm back and wanting to learn / observe the numerous scorpion species available to me. Sadly however, this has to wait due to the terrible weather we get here in the UK haha!... Can't imagine what it must be like in the much colder countries though, my heart goes out to them | |

| Thanks, and damn that sucks! I'd rather wait than risk fatalities though. Surprised how few people have been using heat packs during postage, on several orders I've had to request they come with some form of heat source just in case. | |

| Also a photo of comparison of my heterometrus mysorensis Before (when it first arrived): and After now it's looking like a sausage: It seems to refuse crickets but will literally chase you for a mealworm, haven't decided on a name yet however I did witness it tearing a meal worm in half and then presenting it to the air as if to say "Are you not entertained", so perhaps Maximus would be a good name lol | |

| Maximus, the giant sausage warrior!!!! I tremble before him/her/it, what was it?? lol
Anyway, indeed it is important that you ask for a heat pack, some vendors perhaps are looking to save money so do not send it as a standard policy.
However, I think it is a sign of quality and professionalism when an animal is properly packed, protected and has a heat source. The stress alone can get to it, so the more comfortable it is the better.
As a non-us citizen, in my own country The Netherlands, all expo's and such a within a driving distance, I have always wanted to get the animal myself. But I understand that is not possible for everyone of course.

| I currently name all my scorpions Greek names. Mavros(Dark One), Briareos(Titan with 100 hands and 50 heads), Althea(Healer), and Demetra(Earth Mother). | |

| I used to name my scorpions once upon a time. It gets difficult as your collection grows and difficult when you own bark scorpions that all looks alike. LOL, but I have to admit I love Maximus | |

| I can't say I had ever thought about naming any scorpions I acquire. I suppose because my feelings towards them are more from a scientific fascination perspective. I tend to only name stuff that one can have a genuinely reciprocal relationship with, and much and all as arthropods are utterly cool I would say it is a stretch to meet that condition.
I may well feel differently come to the time, of course! | |

| Back when I kept reptiles I used to name them based on character however, over time I had upwards of 100 different specimens so it got to the point where they just became male 1, 2, 3 and so on, as I develop a larger collection no doubt il abandon naming them and simply refer to them by sex and Latin names. | |

| Ahh, well it depends I think on what you find that works for you. I enjoy naming them, it makes them feel more close to me. | |
