| My Google-fu seems to be failing me, and I'm not even sure who I could call in my local government to ask this kind of question. My local invert merchant is very vague about what laws cover, so I turn to you guys!
I was looking into the steps required to keep an A. Australis. I'm no where near getting one, but the concept is in my head so I'm trying to figure something.
The question: In the United States - Illinois Specifically - what are/how can I find out the laws regarding keeping Medically significant species like A. Astralis?

| Ok I'm not 100 percent sure on this but i think only Florida has any restrictions. I think you're ok if you want an A.a. | |

| In New York City (not the rest of the state) it's technically illegal to keep any invertebrate...however, it's not enforced AT ALL as it's complete BS, nor is it accurate.
http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/downloads/pdf/zoo/zoo-animal-healthcode.pdf
"(12) All venomous insects, including, but not limited to, bee, hornet and wasp." You've got to be joking.
"(13) Arachnida and Chilopoda: All venomous spiders (As opposed to the non-venomous ones?), including, but not limited to, tarantula, black widow and solifugid (Solifugids are NOT spiders, nor are they venomous.); scorpion; all venomous arthropods including, but not limited to, centipede." (Gee, that narrows it down.)
No idea about Florida law.
I know that everywhere else keeping "hots" is legal though.

| In Illinois, you need a permit to keep any Buthid. I have a Babycurus jacksoni but don't have a permit. It's not medically significant, so why should I? I think as long as your responsible it shouldn't matter. Still, try not to brag about it to cops. | |

| Who on Earth comes up with these laws?
Not to mention that every online dealer still ships to everywhere in the US.

| Actually I know a lot of dealers that won't ship to Florida which seems to actually enforce their wild animal laws. Didn't they just have a Simpson-esque snake hunt. | |

| Really?
Well, then again, Florida does have an invasive species problem.
I've only heard of people not shipping roaches to Florida, as if they escape they can become serious pests if they escape...

Centipedes, too...I've seen dealers refuse to ship centipedes to Florida due to invasive species laws.
