| I just got some new scorps from Adam at AJ Exotics. Male Emperor: Female Emperor (possibly gravid!): Bothriurus sp.: Babycurus Jacksoni (x5 [#5 = freebie!]): I'm stoked!! All I had before this was a juvi Emperor. | |

| Thanks, guys!
It's tiny because it's still a little baby. I think it's a 3i. Not sure... gonna have to ask Adam. I hate bothering him with all of my questions.
I don't know anyone with a Bothriurus sp., so therefore it was HARD finding information on it.
When do you think that I should I try feeding them?

| My B. jacksoni ate the day they arrived, but don't be surprised if you have to wait a week or so before they accept.
Nice additions, by the way.

| Thanks, guys! I only have 2 crix left and I have 10 inverts that need them, so it looks like I'm going to have to buy some tomorrow. My mom doesn't want roaches in the house and I keep telling her they they don't climb glass (at least the lobsters anyway). Even if they did I'd put some slick tape around the top or some Vaseline. I wish I lived in the inner-city... in a way.. then I'd have tons of roaches! I gotta say: the female emp was a bit intimidating at first . I started off by petting her a little bit then I held her. Probably shouldn't have done that but I'm Curious George. I held my B. jacksonis, but that's only because I had to get them out of the container. Anyone know anybody that keeps Bothriurus sp.? I have him in a 50/50 peat/sand mix right now. I hope that's alright! I don't know what humidity level to keep them at. They say dry but I don't know exactly how dry. I'm not even sure how strong the venom is. Edit: Sorry about putting the topic in the wrong forum. I second-guessed myself on that; which I should never do. | |

| Haha yeah I prolly will just get them eventually. As for moving out... That'll probably be next year. I want to get some $ saved up before I'm out on my own since I don't have a good resume and I can only get crappy jobs. I just got 2 of my 3i B. jacksonis to eat. The other 3 were being stubborn little buggers! The crix are like twice the size of them but that's all I have left until I go get some more tomorrow. I hate crix.. They die way too often. I'm going to get some pinheads and some medium-sized ones. No more adult ones. Haha the guys at the pet store must hate me for my pickyness! It's there job to serve me to my satisfaction. That's what they get paid for, right? I can't believe that the little guy subdued that cricket with ONE sting. Paralyzed him. It mighta been another sting when I wasn't looking but WOW! They're have some strong chela, too! That cricket couldn't get away for the life of him lol. I love scorpions! | |

| I was similarly excited when I first got five B. jacksoni -- unfortunately, only two made it to adulthood, and the male died two weeks after I put him in with my female. That was three months ago and she still isn't showing so I may need to get a male. Anywho, good luck with those guys. - bjaeger wrote:

If you're in college, try getting a research assistant job. I make $10 / hr and they need me full-time in the summer.

| What'd they do? Cannabilize eachother? I separated all 5 of them in their own containers. I wasn't expecting the fifth B. jacksoni as a freebie, so I left him on the little cup he came in along with a moist paper towel and a piece of cork bark. He's eating a cricket right now. I hope that they can't eat TOO much.. I doubt I'll ever make it to college (that's the spirit!). Maybe a trade school of some sort. Possibly for programming. | |

| I had my mature male and three subadult females in a communal tank, with my runt in its own tank.
One female died mysteriously, one developed severe mycosis and died, and the runt died immediately following a molt (didn't even harden). My surviving female who I thought was gravid turned out to be in premolt.
A week or so after she molted I put her and the male together. I witnessed one mating attempt that didn't go to completion, and two weeks later the male died with no obvious reasons. That was March 16th, so I assume a gravid female would be showing by now, but I've heard that first broods can take a little longer, so we'll see.

| I hope all of my scorps survive. So far I think I'm doing everything right.
- In a tall, round, deli container about 5" high and 12" in girth. - 1" of peat. half moist, half dry. - Vertical climbs made from cork bark. - Shallow bottle caps with water. - Temps in 80s. - 4 decent sized air holes.
That's a bit weird how yours all died like that =/

| Is it normal for a 3i B. jacksoni to cripple a cricket with 1 sting within a second?? It's not even a pinhead. I'd a small-medium sized cricket. | |
