Angry Emp! Empty
PostSubject: Angry Emp!   Angry Emp! Empty11/18/2012, 7:49 pm

Hey guys, i have a really mean Emp. Whenever i go to change his water, he goes after my hand. He tries to attack the water when i spray down his enclosure. I was just wondering if there could be something wrong. She eats regularly, the temp is always 80degrees Fahrenheit, and the humidity is 75 exactly. She has a half log to hide in, and a good 6 inches of Eco-earth. Could it be shes just bad tempered?

In short yes. Emps kept at the right temp and humidity are usually more difficult to handle. It seems when they are kept cold they stay more docile but I don't want to keep mine at the wrong temp just so I can man handle them and show off. In my opinion a feisty emp is a good and well looked after emp. But each scorpion is a case by case, trail and error scenario when it comes to temperament.

Also if you got your recently she could be gravid which makes them more aggressive to intruders.

Mine does the same thing. I just try to change the water dish and stuff when they're busy or hiding. Activity is a good thing. I'd be pissed too if a giant hand was messing around with my stuff x]

I have a very docile large female emp. We handle her all the time with no problem. Funny though, she HATES silver forceps. If you give her a cricket on the forcept she will try to pinch and sting it.

I have thought it must be the light reflection off the metal she hates. If I have to scoot scorps around I prefer to use a length of thin wood such as a chop stick or long, thin wooden spoon. Some scorps can be really aggresive and try to sting the forcepts. I hate to see them sting metal, I'm afraid they might break their stinger. I think the wood is easier on them.

one or two of my emps is aggressive also, but it didnt really start untill i started keeping the humidity high. they used to come out everynight and roam around there tank, then i put deep substrate in and poored water on it to make it damp and sprayed water daily and they started making burrows all the way down to the bottom of the tank and now they never come out. when it was dry they didnt burrow.
