| I just got three female Madigascar Hissing Cockroaches. I think they are about 5 or 6 months old and I guess are about full grown. I have them in a medium Kritter Keeper using Ecoearth as substrate and keep them at about 80 degrees F. with a piece of cork bark as a hide. They are really cool pets! These are definately not feeders!
I read that they really like fruit, veggies and dog (or cat) food. My question is how strong are their jaws? Can they eat, for example, a baby carrot or does it need to be ground up for them? Thanks!

| I used to offer mine orange (which they loved), apple, carrot, butternut squash, kurly cale and the occassional strawberry.. I didnt have to grind anything up for them. I also had a small jar of home made bug grub and half a cuttlefish bone. They are very cool creatures but I sold my colony (about 20 adults and 100 babies) to make room for my first Scorp | |

| Thanks Daniel! Did you always give them raw veggies? Sometimes I buy cooked kale and other veggies at the market for myself and wonder if that's OK for them as well.
I have read on the internet that they like dog and cat food. The dry dog food I give my German Shepherd is very hard. Did you ever give your hissers dog or cat food pellets?

| I only ever gave raw. Once cooked vegetables lose most of their nutritional value (or so ive been told)
My home made bug grub actually has dried cat busciuts in it along with bee pollen, calcium, fish food flakes, oats and some bran. They go mad for it

| Mine enjoy fresh carrots. I sliver the carrots with a potato peeler to make them easier to eat as I have nymphs, as well as adults, to feed. Any of the food items previously mentioned are good choices. I also offer dry cat food, but they seem to prefer the fresh fruits and veggies. Remove any uneaten fruit/veggies after a day or two. Otherwise, you'll attract fruit flies.
