PostSubject: My Borneo Snake Collection   My Borneo Snake Collection Empty8/21/2012, 6:03 am

Recently, I managed to hook up with some herping buddies and bumped up my snake collection.

One of my buddies found another Red-Tailed Rat Snake (Gonyosoma oxycephalum) which he decided to keep together with mine in a bigger tank.

Here's a rare shot of both of them lounging out on the branches...
My Borneo Snake Collection Gonyosomapair

On our first road-cruising trip we managed to bag this 'hottie', of Pasir Pandak.
My Borneo Snake Collection IMG_3012
Hopefully the nose-rub will eventually heal...
My Borneo Snake Collection IMG_3009

Rear-fanged, and relatively 'hot' since a bad-bite can cause necrosis...
My Borneo Snake Collection Mngrv
Don't let them chew on you... this one is still a juvenile and has a lot of growing to do.
My Borneo Snake Collection Mngrv2

My most recent capture while night-browsing the trees at Santubong beach; a grey Dod-Tooth Cat Snake (Boiga cynodon)
My Borneo Snake Collection Greycynodon
Though I'm still hesitant about the ID because this color phase is still being investigated. A bird-eater with long teeth to get through the feathers of its prey; and good reason to avoid getting bitten by this usually placid snake. This one is still a juvenile. Adults can grow to more than 2 meters or 7ft long and a lot more bitey at that size.

The Hots!!!!

My good-old girl Jezebel who's been with me for quite awhile...
My Borneo Snake Collection Jezebel
she's getting pretty old now...
My Borneo Snake Collection Jezebel3

and the two males; Oscar and Sparky that I had hoped to pair with her...
My Borneo Snake Collection OscarSparky
... but she has never been receptive...

Cheers and best regards

How did you go about setting up the enclosure in the first pic? Looks very natural.

Fern clippings from the side of the road and just wedge them in where I can... they will wilt after awhile and then I'll just replace them...

Graham, man... we've mentioned this before like eons ago... Please look me up if you ever visit Kuching, Sarawak. I'm also honored to know that people far away are taking interest in learning aspects of my countries culture ref. 'silat' like Dude you mean they offer silat lessons in the UK? that's just awesome. Very Happy

Cheers

I will look you up if I ever make it.
there are only a few silat classes in the country, so its not a massive following, but thats probably beecause, its not a competition sport, due to many of the techniques being too damaging for competition lol
But yeah it has a following because of its reputation of getting the job done whatever it takes
films like the raid probably help show it off to the western audience aswell

An Enclosure Upgrade or my Snake Collection
My Borneo Snake Collection Serpentariums
This is my first attempt to construct Front-Opening Sliding Glass Enclosures out of Aquarium Conversions from old tanks my friend sold to me.

This one was intended for my Boiga cynodon... but added the Boiga draqiezii as well.
My Borneo Snake Collection BoigaHabitat
Despite the size difference, they seemed to get along fine without issues; probably due to their difference in diet preference.

The jewelers lock is practical safety feature especially for the following

Here is the one I did for my 2.1.0 Borneo Temple Pit Vipers
My Borneo Snake Collection TsubHabitat
Finally in an enclosure that can accommodate 3 of them together and this is what ensued
My Borneo Snake Collection TemplePitsMating

Two more to go for the Boiga dendrophilla and the Boiga drapiezii
Cheers and best regards

The size and color variation between those males and the female are stunning. I'm not a snake fan but this gets a big thumbs up.

Very Happy It's probably my favorite. They get pretty big and need room to stretch out. Mine doesn't puff up as much most others do.
