| The black one will not make it glow. You need a blacklight, but this is not really what it means. This light blocks out ALL light so that you only get the heat. As for which one yuo should get, it all depends on what you want. If you want to add heat AND light, than go with the infrared light. Also, the IR light will not interrupt the scorps day/night cycle, since they can't see red light. Bit if you do not want the light, than go with the other one. | |

| scorpions don't seem to like uv lights. It's ok to us them for taking pic's, but for lights it's not a good light source. That's my 2cents. I'm sure there are other opinions about this. | |

| Well, UV is bad for scorps. But I am pretty sure that the black bulb emits no light whatsoever. EDIT: oh, nevermind. It does give off light. In that case, you really should go with the IR light. | |

| It should say somewhere on the packaging. I know some red light still give off UV, but there are some that don't. I don't know if this one does or not, but if you go to the pet store you can probably find one that doesn't. | |

| Lets keep things simple;
If you want you scorpions to glow for a short period at night, for observation purpose, use black light.
For a more permanent lighting/heating solution, use Infra-red heat lamp.
Under black lighting, if you keep the exposure short (e.g. a few minutes for viewing or photo taking) there isn't much(or negligible) adverse effect on your scorpioins. But, black light are definitely not recommended as a permanent light source in your scorpion enclosure.
As for a sample of Infra-red Heat bulb, you may check out the following: http://www.exo-terra.com/en/products/infrared_basking_spot_lighting.php
Anything similar or equivalent is fine.
Some advantages of using Infre-red (IR) heat lamp:
- Allow night viewing of your beloved scorpions. Scorpions "cannot view" these red lighting and hence, will be less likely to shy away in their burrow/hide, hence it makes it easier for keepers to view their behaviour at night.
- Double-up at a very good heating element for your enclosure if the average temperature if your "scorpion room" is below the ideal temperature of between 75-90F
- Not too costly for a quick setup of using a clamp-able table lamp and in Infra-red heat bulb. E.g. I got mine done at less than USD$15 | |
