| I'm confused, for the female, does it matter if the operculum is heart shaped but inverted? As I saw in the link http://www.pandinusimperator.nl/EN/story_EN.htm , it is heart shaped but it is not inverted as the one I see here. Could somebody please confirm. | |

| That female in the link you've provided does not have an inverted heart-shaped operculum. The picture itself is inverted.
For females, the pointed tip of their operculum is always pointing towards her metasoma (tail).

| I know the picture is inverted but I was comparing the pic that was posted here that had the operculum look different or was inverted. I can't find the picture here anymore but as I remember it looked different from the one that is on the link as it looked inverted or the tip of the operculum was not pointing towards the metasoma. Anyway, maybe I didn't look at it clearly. Oh well, nevermind I am quite satisfied with that you said: For females, the pointed tip of their operculum is always pointing towards her metasoma (tail).[/quote] thanks again... | |

| Also, I should point out, that the shape of the operculum can vary somewhat between individuals, but females always have a pointed tip that points towards the metasoma. For example, I have seen female emps that have oval shaped operculum, but they still had the two small points that pointed towards the metasoma. (Although the points were not plainly obvious.) Also, I don't know if you have seen this: [HOW TO] Sexing Pandinus spp and Hetermetrus spp | |

| @Scorpion19981000 Good observation! Yes, it varies slightly from specimen to specimen, just like the "Oval-shape" of males' operculum. The constant thing will be the direction of the pointed tip which belongs to the "heart-shaped" operculum of females. - leon wrote:

Hmn.. maybe that is not a female after all. I'm interested to view it if you happen to find it again.
