| Iv had an emp for about a week, bought a male about 3 days ago, ones a female, the new one is a male about twice as big. they r in the tank, now about if they breed , she will eat him ? if they breed r they guranteed babys ? will they only breed under certain conditions or random ? and how do |I know how much humidity ? how do i guage it ? and I have a grey moldish looking substance on my hollow half logs from the pet store , is that ok ? and when i clean the tank do I replace all the terrain ? or just grab cricket carcuses ? , u can see condensation on the glass but its below the surface of the ground. if they breed it most likley will be at night right ? and the male kicked the female out of its spot lol, should I separ\te them ? put a divider in the tank, different tank? I have cocnut husk and forrest moss as terrain, i put them in a bucket with water then mixed them, and I moved the heatpas from the bottom to the side, but the scorpion burrows right beside the pad, will he cook himself right besside the pad like that ? | |

| Woh.. slow down tiger! Didn't you post similar set of questions in your other thread "questions I cant find answers to"? (I have merged it to this thread) Are you sure you have tried searching information on the questions you have posted and do a little reading yourself? They might not be the exact questions but a search on keywords such as "scorpion breeding", "scorpion heat pads positioning/concerns" or "Humidity gauge" or simply "Emperor scorpion caresheet"would have given you some good leads on the questions you have asked.. There's no fault in being new in the hobby and wanting to learn more but it is difficult for people to react in time when you jump in with a massive pile of questions using a single shot of breathe. Don't get me wrong, you are definitely welcomed but people would appreciate the OP more if he/she post questions that reflects effort/research has already been put in with regards to the questions he/she asked. Especially so when similar questions have been discussed before, it takes effort for someone to step in and direct you with links and to re-post the same replies again. And please do paragraphs and take things one at a time.. i almost lost count on the number question marks are there.. Bottom-line, we are trying to inculcate a self-help learning habit before we post a question. https://scorpionforum.darkbb.com/t8015-how-to-search-for-scorpion-s-informationIf there are no replies to your queries, i would find sometime after my work to help out Regards, GS | |

Refer to "documented scenarios at the end of a mating session:" section in the mating guide below: https://scorpionforum.darkbb.com/t8018-how-to-guide-to-mating-scorpions

if they breed r they guranteed babys ? Upon a successful insemination, yes. However, many things can happen to a gravid scorpion mom. Just like humans, extra tender loving care provided will be ideal
- Mandiblehead wrote:
will they only breed under certain conditions or random ? If both male and female are sexually ready (full adults), female is not already gravid and under normal circumstances (when they are not under stress or famished) they would almost attempt to mate immediately when placed in the same enclosure.
Refer to "Preparation for the male/ female:" section in the mating guide below: https://scorpionforum.darkbb.com/t8018-how-to-guide-to-mating-scorpions

and how do I know how much humidity ? Don't understand this question, are you referring to their normal husbandry? During mating, as long as the humidity is what they are intended to be kept in during normal circumstances, should be ideal. If you are talking about forest scorpions, humidity should be around 70-80%
- Mandiblehead wrote:
- how do i guage it ?
Use a hydrometer to read the exact humidity percentage. For gauge on how much dampness required of the substrate, refer to " How to determine the required dampness in the substrate::" section in the Forest scorpion caresheet below: https://scorpionforum.darkbb.com/t7735-how-to-raise-forest-scorpions
- Mandiblehead wrote:
- and I have a grey moldish looking substance on my hollow half logs from the pet store , is that ok ?
No immediate ill effects towards your scorpion but you may wish to clean the log and sun it dry before re-using it or simply get a new one. This usually happens due to insufficient ventilation, try to increase the air-follow into your tank bit by bit, till you get the right combination. Usually a screen mesh lid would do the trick.
- Mandiblehead wrote:
- and when i clean the tank do I replace all the terrain or just grab cricket carcuses ? ?
Whenever you bathe yourself, do you throw away all your clothes and buy a new set immediately? No you don't. Am i right? hence you may just replace the things required. E.g. clean the water dish if it gets too cloudy.. replace a new substrate if they are overly infested with mites etc.
If you have been religiously do "spot cleaning" (remove dead parts/ poops), usually you should have very little or no mites problem that warrants a substrate overhaul.
- Mandiblehead wrote:
- if they breed it most likley will be at night right ?
Advisable to attempt mating your scorpion pair at night (if they are not already living communally), but they have no issues mating in broad daylight as well.
- Mandiblehead wrote:
- and the male kicked the female out of its spot lol, should I separ\te them ?
Usually its the female who kicks the male out. But if it does happens, and it has moved on from a occasionally territorial dispute to frequent fights. You may separate the pair.
- Mandiblehead wrote:
- put a divider in the tank, different tank?
If you use divider, make sure it's stable whereby one party will not be able to sneak over from underneath or above.

A scorpion will not deliberately cook himself like that since you mentioned he is the one who burrowed through and landed himself right beside the pad. This action may be telling you that he needed the warmth. As if he is feeling too hot, he can always move himself towards the cooler spot can he? | |

| Cheers mate. No worries. i guess you must be extremely excited with your new pet scorpions. First, do take time to search for info in the forums or Google for caresheets and see if they answer you, if there aren't and good threads to read up on, post your questions here. I'm sure there will be replies. [HOW TO] Search for Scorpion's InformationRegards, GS | |
