| That's a male R. junceus???? Are you sure? I can't see the notch or any hint of bulbous chelae. Great looking one though, I need a female I like those bark pieces too. | |

I like those bark pieces too. I'm not good on sexing scorpions but other hobbyist said it was a male.. Can anyone help me identify if its true? | |

| By comparing Rhopalurus junceus of 6 or 7.instar, males are thinner than females and with more bulbous chela. However, if the female is one instar ahead of the male, judging by bulbous chela might not be that efficient and we have to consider the body size ratio as well. Notice in the following pic, the chela size between the pair is identical. The one on the top is a 7.instar female, bottom is a 6.instar male. If you lack of the equipment (camera that can take decent close-up pics) or you do not have another specimen for comparison, you can sex them via the protruding notch in the chela: I'm in the midst of preparing a detailed guide for this specie, meanwhile.. I've sourced the following pic for demostration. This is a sample of a male's chela. The presence of the notch signifies a male. Picture by BrianSNote that this sexual dimorphism in males are usually at maturity (6.instar).. | |
