| Hi people,
Its been a while since I was really active on here and so I'm sure I've missed out on a lot of scorp news.
However, I have a question. A while back emps went on the CITES list - so I'm assuming that they've gone up in value? I ask because I will be going to university next year (hopefully) and so will be inclined to sell my scorpions.
The last time I was on here they had just gone on the CITES list and were generally selling in the UK for around £12, yet, having checked on Virginia Cheeseman's site, her price has increased to £30. | |

| In America I can get one ranging anywhere from $10 - $20. So that is around £7 to £15. I'm not from your area and this doesn't answer your question but it's all the insight I have. | |

| Virginia Cheeseman does generally charge higher than most. As far as I know emps have been CITES Appendix II for quite a while (edit: just had a look in a book and they have been listed on CITES Appendix II since at least 2001). I think the higher prices are/were due to a halt in exports of P. imperator from Ghana (i think) whilst they assessed how badly wild populations had been affected by collecting. I'm not sure if this has now been lifted or if it is still in effect. Emps have started to appear again here but that could be due to them being imported from other countries or being imported under Pandinus 'africanus' which is the name used by collectors to get around customs when quotas have already been met (or so I have been told). You would have thought someone would have told customs this species doesn't exist lol.
This is just what I have heard through word of mouth though. It may not all be true but it seems to fit with the drought of emperors we seem to have had over here.
My local reptile shops got adults in for £20. The owner was also telling me about emps being much harder to get hold of at the moment. This has been the first time he's seen them on supplier list's in a long time.

| yea, its not bad, always get the best price at reptile shows/expos thats here in the US. breeders are just basically giving them away, they have them in big plastic storage boxes by the dozens and you can pick out which ones you want. I've read that they are gravid for months! wow I'm so surprised, i hope one of my females is prego! i was so excited last night feeding them for the first time i was like a kid in a candy shop!!! how much are they going for by you? | |
