| so i picked up a bag of sand from the home depants and mixed it with some excavator clay for my v.spinigerus thats waiting for her mansion back.theeeenn i read on the bag of sand it may contain crystalline silica which is bad for our lungs.i shouldve read the bag when i was there and now i have set up i have to dump out and redo again because i was in a rush. if its bad for our lungs i could imagine what it would do to a scorpion burrowing in that stuff. moral of the story read the words printed on the things you buy especially the warning labels.even with sand. anyone need some sand to make some concrete or put between their bricks or in the soil of their garden? i got like 40lbs of it thats just gonna sit around. | |

| I never read anything of that on a package. Looks to me though its in all sorts of sands. It most notably comes forth when being worked with. For example during abbrasive works. Sand blasting etc. I dont think the silica comes from the sand when just being 'handled', that said its better to find sand without it I can imagine.
Sorry for my english im still asleep.

| yeah c.silica is everywhere and its most natural form is quartz i believe.but its when its in its dust form is when its dangerous.
the bag says to not use it with sand blasting and to open the bag with a mask.

| C. silica is one of the base components of most sands. Shining is right, quartz is one form of it.
As long as you wash the sand before using (to get rid of all the dust), it shouldn't be a problem to use it.

| Yep. I always just put it in a strainer and let the hot water run over for a minute or two | |
