That's right. I got three second-instars that arrived today (one's a third-instar now; he decided to molt during unpacking).

For reference, the jars are ~3/4 of an inch across.

The fatty:

And the molter. 5:57 PM

As of 7:45 PM, the last one has its body out and is flipped over, and is just working the metasoma out.

Thanks everyone! I'm really excited for a chance at breeding these guys. Aside from those connected to the order these three came from, I'm not aware of anyone in the US with this species.

Well then, that's five people including myself that have these in the US that I'm aware of. I think that still qualifies as "rare" Very Happy.

111, this was actually the first time I got to see a scorp in the process of molting. I just wish it was on that was a little bigger and easer to see! Smile

Dan, there's no medical literature available (that I'm aware of) on the venom of this species. It's a Buthid, so it will likely hurt, and I believe there's some medically significant Centruroides spp. from that neck of the woods, so I'll have to take care not to get stung. But hey, if I do, that's how we learn! What a Face

So I don't know if anyone's heard, but these have been confirmed as C. margaritatus and Raul and I worked things out over the mis-ID.

But in either case, one molted to 3I today! Very Happy

Well, if you had read my last post in this thread, you would know that

A) it's not C. bicolor after all

B) I got them from Raul

C) This happened over a year ago, as pointed out by Chrome.

And all three died, anyway.

Make sure they're genuinely C. bicolor before you shell out a lot of money for them. There's a colorform of C. margaritatus that looks remarkably like C. bicolor. You can tell them apart by the number of rows of denticles (grippy bumps) on the movable chela finger. That's how I confirmed these as the wrong species.

I forget the numbers, but I can dig up my thread on AB and look them up if you're interested.
