| Get some S. maurus instead. In a tank that size there should be enough space for them to live ''communally''. Fill it full of sand and excavator clay mix. Throw in a few rocks, abit of nice sandy coloured, weathered driftwood and maybe even plant some succulents. Add 4 to 6 S. maurus and see what happens lol. You could even have a crack at using a false bottom http://www.schorpioenenforum.nl/index.php?topic=151.0 to get the climate spot on and have a good chance at breeding and raising young.
I am itching to get my 3foot tank setup this way so I may be slightly biased as to what you should put in yours haha lol.

| Pandinus are cool Tom, but I find them to be too much of 'pet holes' for large extravagant enclosures. You'll have this great tank just full of dirt and rocks while everything is hidden underground. Not to discourage you because I have a 20 with 3 adults in their and it's nice but I also have a 6ft long 1ft 6in wide and 2 feet deep tank. I was gonna have a large colony of Emps but decided against it for that reason.
So go for it if you want, but consider something else if you'd also like.

| I have to agree with bedlam as i am going to be purchasing a 4 long x 2 wide at 18" deep next payday and i was thinking i want the most active scorps i can find as i love watching them move nothing more exciting than watching how they live their lives i currently have 2 emps myself... my female is a pet hole... however my male im pretty sure is under them impression he is half spider in a sense that he is always climbing on things that werent originally intended for climbing as well as running laps around the tank while i add water and feed | |

| If you want something more active that doesn't burrow, go for some bark scorpions. With a tank that size, you can literally house dozens and in some cases for hobbyists I know, up to and over a hundred. Your location says UK though, so your options will be different. | |

| Are you definately going for an emp community then?? If so we are no longer on speaking terms hahaha joking lol. If you are still thinking of getting S. maurus the spider shop have them in for £8.95 and exoticpets.co .uk for £8.61. I have started getting a few S. maurus for when I set up my community in the next few weeks. Picked two up for £7 each. Proper bargain and no postage fee (because the guy was close enough for me to pick them up lol). | |

| wow... good deal there then callum. i'm definitely going with the emps, like i said, i'm getting them for very little money.. i'd really like a nice showpiece viv, but i don't have enough cash going spare at the moment, believe me i would get a few S. maurus to go in there instead, but i'm going to stay with the Pandinus for a while, you never know, give it a year and i'll have loads of big tanks.. i've touched on the fact i'm getting addicted before how big a viv do you think i would need for a pair or whatever the minimum is for a community? thanks | |

| Erm I think it's trial and error with S. maurus. Not strictly communal but will apparently tolerate each other if given enough space (which is probably true for many scorps lol). They are found in high densities in the wild but do not share hides/burrows like say an emperor would. Instead living in their own burrows that can be situated very close to others. I am sure I read somewhere there are areas where there can be as many as 10 S. maurus burrow entrances per metre squared. The floor of my tank has an area of 0.4 m2 so I am going to have a go at putting 4 S. maurus together and see how things go lol. | |
