PostSubject: I'm afraid....   I'm afraid.... Empty4/9/2011, 12:42 pm

...my second H.Laoticus might be dying. Most of you know the first one passed away in February.
Same story again.. one month refusing food and now I found him nearly motionless, with his legs under pulled together under the body.

He still moves the tail and the pedipalps though. But I'm afraid it will not be for long Sad
I found him actually in his waterdish, it was empty, but I think before there was some water left, maybe aroung 5mm high. I moved him now in a piece of paper and bumped up the heat, hoping he will recover.

I'm sorry to hear it. Hope he recovers. If he doesn't make it, I'm sure he died the happiest Scorpion. How long have you had him?

Since January. He's still a 2i. Took them from a friend of a friend. He's the last one from the whole brood that made it this far.

He died Crying or Very sad
He was moving his telson a bit still when I got up yesterday, at around 10 am he had stopped moving completely and with the tail flat.

It really sucks! These H. Laoticus were my first 2 scorpions. What actually can cause these deaths? I know that the rest from the brood died much earlier than mine. Weak genetics?

Hey, sorry for your losses, especially them being your first scorps. Did you keep this scorpion in the same conditions as your first one? What were those conditions?

Bex, not sure if I have other pictures then the first ones I had posted here https://scorpionforum.darkbb.com/t5762-h-laoticus-002

Both were kept in the same conditions, humidity at around or over 80% and the temp were probably at around 25C, maybe a little lower at night.

did they burrow at all? cant really see any floor space in your pics also although the glass has condensation on it in the side pic but looks like the substate may be dry? i tend to not use moss, but a small amount is fine um maybe try a simpler set up next time i dont really know to be honest, sorry

I'm afraid.... OYUfvMvYcnf0YGUrd7LCag?feat=directlink

I think that i the last picture I have, it's from around 2 weeks ago. Since then, I have removed a part of the bark and added a hide in there.
This fellow has never burrowed.

I guess I will not be taking any scorplings soon. Probably what ever Heterometrus I take next, will have to be sub-adult.

Yes, just that line.

I can easily get any of these:

Heterometrus cyaneus
Heterometrus phipsoni
Heterometrus madraspatensis
Heterometrus mysorensis
Heterometrus petersi
Heterometrus spinifer
Heterometrus swammerdami

I am thinking on a sub-adult Swammerdami though.

Yeah, it could have been the ventilation. Giving them humidity is fine, but giving them good ventilation is even better. The asian forest scorps I've kept lived in mesh top setups and they all did fine. Try drilling holes across the top of that setup and hopefully this will help.

That would be so nice of you Smile

In regards to ventilation, unfortunately I agree with both of you. I do hope this was not the reason, as I would hate to have been responsible for their deaths. But I guess I'll never know.

Either way, I think I'm going to change the lids of all my enclosures. Either I will drill the whole top, or I will make new screen tops.

I would go for screen/mesh tops then you will know it has plenty of ventilation Smile

Yep, I guess that will be the best. I think I still have enough steel screen (the one for windows) at home so I could use that..
