Took some more pictures while making performing my routine inspections

Hottentotta judaicus with an abnormally small brood

That H. judaicus is a beauty and the O. dentatus is crazy good looking.
What instar is the H. judaicus?

Nice pics. I like the O. dentatus and B. gigas. And, of course the H. jayakari looks awesome too.

O. dentatus and B.gigas are really eye candies!!!

The judaicus, being an adult, is 7th instar.

Sadly, the superficial similarity to B jacksoni causes O dentatus to be somewhat undesirable for most people

I hope you are able to get your hands on them as well. B gigas are a semi hard to breed species. Unfortunately, my female matured an instar early and is, what I believe to be, sterile.

Are you talking about on this page, or in the entire thread?

If your talking about the scorps listed on this page, Androctonus australis is the most venomous of the scorpions above. It's venom is very powerful, one of the most toxic of all scorpions. It causes more human deaths than any other scorpion. All the species above (With the exception of the H. spinifer) are fairly venomous though.

If your talking about the entire thread, then Leiurus quinquestriatus is the most venomous. It has the most toxic venom of any scorpion.

Oh I thought these were different common pet ones. What exactly do you do? Do you really have all these simply for a collection? Or do you work for a zoo or something?

It's really impressive nonetheless. I'm not crazy enough to get an Androctonus Australis, but if I was is it legal to buy as a pet in the US? I would imagine you would only be able to get one if you, you know, worked for a zoo or something like that. I wanted to see what other more rare scorpion pets there are that are available legally in the US. Would happen to know which species are legal to have as pets and which are not? Personally, I like having things nobody else has. If you took a census of all scorp owners which species would show up the least on that?

There are only a few restriction in the US and they have to do with imports. Species on the Cites list or the endangered species list. You can purchase just about any species you want in the US. Every state has different restrictions. Texas has none! Check with your local Fish & Wildlife Organization. Be sure you buy from a company state side or you could run in to trouble if you don't have an import/export license. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong!!!

Um, I'm not sure if that was directed at me or not, but I'm 14, so I don't work anywhere. I do not own any of the scorpions above. (Yet anyway.) You can order lots of species online. Some good places to buy scorpions are: http://www.kenthebugguy.com/ and http://swiftinverts.com/

As tfleming said, pretty much all scorpions are legal in the US.
Some Heterometrus species are rare in the US and have mild venom.
Some rare species are H. swammerdami, H. mysorensis, H. phipsoni, H. madraspatensis, etc. The problem is that very few people have these, and even fewer are breeding them. There is a member on here called Jarvis, who is breeding all the species I listed above. (He has none for sale right now though.)


From your reaction, I see your probably wondering why people keep highly venomous scorpions. If you use common sense, the danger is quite low. Also, 99% of people start with scorpions such as Pandinus imperator (Emperor scorpion) or a Hadrurus sp. (Desert Hairy), which have low venom and are considered "beginner" scorpions. Only after people become more experienced with beginner scorpions, do they move on to more advanced species.

Great info! I had a scorpion when I was young but wasn't responsible for it at the time. I've had an emperor scorpion for about 2 years now. It actually just gave birth, she must have eaten some because all that I saw were 10. But it's been a week and a half since they were born and all are still alive! I bought another tank for them for when they get bigger but just to keep them safely until I find people who want to adopt them. So I'll have an extra tank for another more rare species, and hopefully one more venomous, simply for the awesome factor.

Thanks a lot for that website, I was looking for online pet stores but could only find ones that sell pet supplies. That's insane how you can legally own a death stalker.

It's not really all that insane if you really think about it.
-For starters, buthidae such as Leiurus sp. or Androctonus sp. will deter many people on their venom potency alone, so the likelihood for incident is pretty low overall.
-Secondly, the reach of most scorpions at a maximum is 3" which makes the likelihood for envenomation while using proper technique rather low.
-I imagine they'll be regulated one day, after a bunch of idiots get their hands on them and people start hurting themselves with them like most things.

i use the golden rule myself,hands don't go below rim of enclosure,only tongs...lol
figure if i follow those rules my hots will never be a problem..
