Noob questionz Empty
PostSubject: Noob questionz   Noob questionz Empty2/2/2011, 12:11 pm

Im new to keeping scorpions, just bought a adult male and female yesterday. They seem pretty aggressive, guess you can't always win as i've heard most are docile...anyways. I have a few questions :-

1.) What temp should it be at day/night time for an emperor scorpion?

2.) Whats the best way to keep up the humidity? do u need to buy a humidity gauge?

3.) Whats the best way to identify which scorpion is male or female?

4.) Should u handle the scorpions the for the first few days or let them be?

5.) Best way to handle a scorpion? I've seen guys at the pet shop pick it up by its stinger is that a good or bad way to handle?

26 or 28 degrees i guess, just put a heat mat on the back

no you dont need a humidity gauge, they are useless. just pour water onto the (cocofibre) substrate when it looks like its a little bit dry

3.) Whats the best way to identify which scorpion is male or female?
show us a picture of the underside of both scorpions and we can tell you which is which

dont handle the scorpion unless you really have to. i coax them into a tub with a lid if i need to move them. handling a scorpion stresses it out, increases the chance of you getting a pinch or sting, and you might drop it (well, it might let go) which is likely to kill it.
dont do it.

they are exploring it, they do all sorts of things for the first week or so, after a while they will just dig a burrow and sit in it for the rest of the time you own them. have a small tile or flat piece of slate in the tank for them to breed on.
