| Subject: Opistophthalmus boehmi molt question 11/2/2010, 6:33 pm | |
| Just wondering if someone could give me a bit of advice.
My Opistophthalmus boehmi has just recently molted. However there is still part of the old skin stuck to it's right pedipalp. This means at the moment it is unable to use it's pedipalp. The old skin just doesn't seem to be dropping off the right pedipalp. The rest of the body has molted fine.
I dampened the substrate to see if that would help, but no luck yet.
It will probably just drop off through time.
Any advice? | |

| you can go get some glycerin and water and put it in a eye dropper and drip it onto the stuck molt and see if you can then slip it off with a q-tip its a realy delicate process but it works but if its been stuck there for too long it may not work but i would try
you can get glycerin at any pharmacy at the pharmacy desk
but i would try asap before it becomes a problem

| Hi. Many thanks for your advice. It was much appreciated.
I tried some water mixed with glycerine but I had no luck. I was stressing the scorpion out and it was striking at the tweezers.
On closer inspection this would now appear to be a bad molt. The poor scorpion has been left deformed as a result.
Hopefully this will not cause a lot of problems for the poor thing.
I tried to upload some pictures but couldn't get them to work.
Any further advice would be appreciated.

| yeah it happens some times when it starts to harden up it gets tighter and harder to get off the only other thing you can do besides keep trying is to keep an eye on it and when it goes to molt again you will have to soften it up in the place it is stuck now with the glycerineand water using an eye dropper and drip a few drops on that spet but you have to catch it getting ready to molt
or you can try using the solution of water and glycerine in an eye dropper and drip some onto it and it may be just come off on its own after a little time it would make it soften up and cause less harm to your scorpions pedipalp
but it shouldnt realy cause too much of a problem since its on 1 pedipalp i cant realy say for sure without seeing it but it should be able to eat ive had a scorpion loes an arm 1 time and it still could catch food and all
if you have a photobucket account its easy to do and free alot of people use that
best of luck | |
