I have a Urodacus yaschenkoi in a tank thats standing 1m off the ground and is 30l x 30w x 60h (cm) which is 30cm deep with desert sand and too heavy to move 50+kg. (without empting some samd)
He lives in his elaborat burrow all the way to the bottom, and the only thing I ever see of him is his pincers occasionaly sticking out of the hole waiting for food.
(that isnt the problem, it's what I expected).

The problem is how do I get him out if I ever need to? I cant just dig him up can I?

yeah you can but we suggest that you dont....you wont need him...for anything...and if your waiting to perhaps change the substrate, he will come out eventually...

Why do you want him out? Once he is out, he'll only start to burrow again.

i would assume, with the mention of weight, that they wish to move the tank elsewhere but do not want a collapsing burrow.
dig him out with a spoon or try to block off his retreat when he is at the surface somehow, then just remove him and let him go and sort out any cave ins when you have moved it.

i suggest half a tube up against the side of the glass going half way down into the sand. this way he can go down here and be visible but also carry on digging his burrow further, but no matter how elaborate it is, he will still wait for food where you can see him and check everything is fine.

It's mainly because i might have to move the tank, and i dont want his tunnel to colapse on him, and i'll probably have to remove half of the sand to safely move the tank
(it's realy awkward to move)

I'm glad he built his tunnel going around the edge of glass!

Thanks for the reply
