| I've been doing a lot of research on the Emperor Scorpion and after careful contemplation decided that i would love to take up raising a scorpion as a hobby. Only problem is, my wife is not too crazy about the idea of having live crickets in the house, and i was wondering if scorpions will ever eat the pre-killed pre-packaged stuff? I have yet to find a website that addresses this issue, and when i came across this one it looked like a great place to ask around and find out. I'm sure that in time i could convince my wife to house crickets, she loves anything that alive and I'm sure the scorpion would grow on her after i got it, but if they are unable, or if it is unhealthy to eat the freeze dried bugs for a while, i am not sure i will be able to get one. any advise is much appreciated. | |

| Your wife is OK with a scorpion, but not crickets? Anywho, no, scorpions are predators and won't likely go for the dead stuff. People will say to use prekilled prey, but that's usually so fresh it's twitching and will still elicit a predatory response. However, if your wife isn't up to having crickets in the house, there's other prey options, such as cockroaches -- however, the ideal prey species aren't typically available in pet stores, so you usually have to get yourself a colony. Mealworms are an option too, but they're on the fatty side and you can't just toss 'em in the tank or they'll burrow into the substrate and disappear. | |

| Locust are another option, but they don't appear to enjoy locust as much as crickets. | |

| Ok, thanks for the info guys. I'll probably have to pass on being able to adopt a scorpion for the time being. From what i read i figured even if they COULD eat the pre-killed, it would not be as good for them, and i don't want to get a scorpion so that i can give it what's not good. I'd rather wait till i can provide the best possible living arrangements for it. And yea, i have no idea why my wife hates crickets so much even in light of something like a scorp. i don't think even she knows... her greatest fears are beetles and crickets. go figure... but yea, thanks anyways guys when i can finally get a scorpion i'll have to come back and chat here and try and not sound like a noob | |

| Well, when in doubt you gotta go with your spouse, I guess. Better luck in the future. (Incidentally, I do sort of know what you mean -- my wife's phobia is starfish, so those would be out of the question if we ever got a saltwater aquarium .) | |

| My girlfriend has an intense phobia of chickens. Not just seeing a real one...cartoons, pictures, statues...the sound. (if i make a chicken sound, she gets all bent out of shape, its that bad) | |

| Dang, that's unfortunate, chickens taste so good!
I'm guessing she doesn't eat chicken as well? | |
