| Hi, I was wondering if crickets can or will eat styrofoam. I was going to buy a cricket breeder tank, but I got the idea that I could do a very cheap one out of styrofoam insulation sheets.
I was thinking of just getting 40 or 50mm sheets and glueing them together to make a box, and then make a cover out of window screen and put a lamp for heating inside.
Just wondering if they would be able to eat their way through the styrofoam. | |

| I rekon they could, we had one in our haddy tank then ate loads of the foam backgrouns thing, and that was just one cricket god knows what they would do if there was loads lol, i couldnt work out what it was at first, there was just loads of tiny foam balls/bits all over the tank at first i thought it was the scorpion but then i saw the cricket ripping bits off lol | |

| not a very good idea then. I should probably just stick with a glass tank then. Not sure yet if I even want to breed them though. | |

| Yeah, gladly I have a basement under my building so I would do it there. I'm waiting my friend to bring me a B.Dubia colony soon though. | |

| So, I have decided, I will make 2 or 3 breeding tanks out of glass, with a 50mm styrofoam insulation on the outside. I will need to get a big colony going, as a friend will be willing to buy 1000-2000 crickets a month. How many crickets would be a reasonable amount to start with?
Also, how many dubia's would be a good amount to start up a colony? Probably I will be selling these later on as well (need to finance the hobby somehow, lol )

| I actually figured out cleaning would be very difficult too, as styrofoam will suck all the dirt and smell. So, for now my plan is to make 2 or 3 containers as described on my earlier post (glass and styrofoam) and one styrofoam box which I will be using only as an incubator for the egg containers. | |
