| i have a black emperor, and im currently trying to figure out what sex it is. it has small pectines as a female should, but its not the size of females ive seen in pictures. its really got me baffled. the only thing i can think of is, maybe shes a little bit underfed...but everything ive read leads me to believe i should just feed her biweekly. sometimes she even goes longer and im wondering if this is the reason i think shes underfed?
any advice/help would be greatly appreciated. incase you're wondering, the only things shes ever eaten are pinky mice and anole lizards. and im currently thinking i shoul just throw a few crickets a week in there and see how she does with that.

| In pictures, things are usually much larger. Get us a pic of the pectines and we can tell you what sex it is.
You shouldn't feed a scorp mice and they are very unnutritious in terms of the scorps needs. Just stick to crickets, locusts, roaches or other feeders like that and it should be fine.

| Really we need a pic that is closer to the pectines. Its difficult to tell from this far away.

| Looks female to me . . . the pictures weren't so much closer as larger, and if they're blurry to begin with that won't help any.
As I've said, my vote's for female, but if you want a crisper picture try using the camera's macro setting and having a partner spotlight the scorp so the camera knows where to focus.
Also as has been said, vertebrates are far from the ideal prey for scorpions; stick to arthropods. (The high levels of calcium has been shown to be detrimental, not to mention the godawful mess that it can leave.)

| im just gonna go with female, cause the pectinal teeth on the pectines are rather small. but i appreciate the help with that.
ill look into the macro settings on my camera, ive never heard of them, but it will be something to keep me busy lol.
and yeah, im not feeding her anymore verts, just all insects...i know she didnt like the mice i fed her (she'd only eat a part of it anyway), but i think she was liking the anoles i was throwing in her tank. but ill just stick with small insects, it sounds alot easier and probably will work 1000 times better.
like ive said, i thank everyone so much for all the advice and help, you guys have been way more helpful than anyone else ive asked and anywhere ive looked (mostly i-net research)
