in palm springs december

So I'm going out to palm desert Dec 4-5 in California for a wedding. Will this still be a good time to search for scorpions? This is going to be my first hunt. I have my uv flashlight ready to go.

Any tips like techniques and type of areas to cover would be appreciated. I'm worried the weather will effect my hunt.

I think you may have trouble blacklighting... You never know till you try though. Your best bet would be flipping rocks and debris. Let us know how it goes!

december, well they will all be hiding away because its cold, so it wont be easy. you will probably have to look for stacks of logs that will be a bit of a protection from the weather and a bit of insulation. dont expect much, but you might find some stuff, and probably things that arent scorpions too.
what sort of stuff lives in that area? you will probably find bark species in log piles but things that burrow should be deep down in their burrows.
are you going to keep what you find? if not at least take some pics and show us!

I will definitely post any life I find. If i see scorpions i will take them home, all other critters will probably just stay there. - Might grab a gecko if i can catch one, but really just trying to pick up a new scorpion.

Looks like this is seasonal. Nothing but beatles in sub 50temps. O well.

Yep, picked up all sorts of rocks, saw some holes in the ground that i dug up. Saw a silverfish, some beetles (Eleodes?) - which in defense do their head standing posture, and a small black ant colony.

if you want to look for stuff you need to go in the summer, fall. i always go out in the summer at night and black light i usely find stuff

First time logging in since winter. Is it summer now? I might make a trip out to palm springs soon. I'd like to check san diego local first, temps are 70+ now. Should be 80-90 in August.

Way to bring this post back! Palm Springs is such a great place to look for these critters, particularly in the summer. When looking for Things to do in Palm Springs this is not usually at the top of the list, but having lived there for a few years now, its actually quite an interesting hobby as long as you keep your distance that is.
