if it is a buthid, it's not legal in britain without a DWA.

as said bothriurid species are nice (chilean scorps). I think virginia cheeseman has a few nice sp. www.virginiacheeseman.co.uk.

fine, possible imprisonment, and the animals will be removed and more than likely destroyed, however it is unlikely that they would ever know aslong as you werent telling people you kept them, I am not saying you should try get hold of them, Infact I would advise against it. Your parents would probably be held responsible as you are young.
Also even if you tried to get hold of them it aint easy most sellers of species on the DWA will ask for a photocopy of your licence because they can get into trouble for selling to people without said licence

Well you would have to get your parents to do it as I you have to be atleast 18 If your parents were the licencees you legally wouldnt be allowed to partake in the care of them.
They are pretty expensive it varies from county to county, you need a vet to come look at your home and make sure its suitable, you need public liability insurance ( something like that ) incase they escape and cause harm. All in all its not really wort it Unless your really really serious.

+if you do have a chance to get a dangerous species or even just a harmless buthid, if you decide to take action and get it.. just keep quiet about it.

but be carefl, don't talk about it or show them off on forums because.. you never know who's watching.

Ahem . . . as an administrator, I must step in and ask everyone to kindly cease from suggesting that a minor engage in illegal behavior, regardless of how stupid I think the DWA is.

That aside, the simple answer to "do I need a DWA license?" is "if it's a buthid." If you don't know if it's a buthid or not, check the scorpion files species list for the family (link).

THAT aside, I might suggest Euscorpis spp. -- why? 'Cause they greatly resemble Uroctonus, which is my personal favorite.

There's been a swarm of Bothrurids lately. I'm not really into them, mainly 'cause they're so new in the hobby that not a lot is known about them. I'd rather not wade into uncharted waters and find myself screwing up with a species that might be hard to get again.

there are loads of fantastic species that are not DWA, for instance Heterometrus madraspatensis is becoming fairly well represented in the hobby, is feisty, large, has great big claws and is rather colourful for Heterometrus.

i'd also check Opistophthalmus species, they aren't commonly available but are very colourful.

i personally like the Chilean ones, tis true they are uncharted waters, but mine seemed to do badly with moisture, and well with dry cool conditions, so in reality they are fairly easy so far, touch wood! but yeah might be best to work up to them.

i like colourful scorps myself but am learning to appreciate some for structure as well, ie shapes of claws or general build, so if you find yourself like that, some of the less colourful Vaejovidae, Heterometrus or Pandinus species that are less common might be fun to get into.
one i'd recommend is Heterometrus mysorensis, the males have fantasticly shaped claws!
