| Finally after having my suspitions about my female emps being gravid one of them is giving birth, went to check on them and caught her in the act, although now im worried cause (as i didnt know she was giving birth) i disturbed the other female next to the mother and she ran into her and the mother broke out of hte birth basket position n ran away a bit leaving one of the babie that was still half hangin out on the ground so that ones probably dead for sure but now im worried shes too stressed out and will eat her kids, what do you guys think? Also should i remove the other 2 scorps (a rathr fat female and a male) to make sure they dont disturb her or is it ok to leave them in there, the males made a burrow at the other side of the tank n wont come out anyways but its the other female im most worried about as she usually shares the big hide with the mother. What should i do. And just to double check ill leave her alone till the slingsl eave her back then remove the slings right? Thanks P.S CHEEEEEEEESIN'!!!!! P.S (again) shes already given birth to about 7 of them and theyre on ehr back fine, will they be ok? | |

| I left my babies with their mom she takes exelent care of them...I dont think I would ever take babies away after watching her with them.Half have molted into 3I The mother dragged all the molted remains out of the burrow....That that was prett cool
Thats just my take...I know someone else on here has seperated all his babies into little deli cups.
As for the other 2 scorps in there if you can get them out without bothering the mother at all go for it.But if you think you're ganna bother mom takin the top off or something I'd wait till the babies were on the mothers back for a while and see how it gose....
OH yeah Congrats on the babies wait till the first time you feed them you'll love it haha

| She may go back to birthing if she thinks it's safe.
As has been said, remove the other scorps if you can do it without stressing her.

| Congratulation with the birth in progress. When she feels safe she should resume birthing. When you know its finished you can then remove the other two from the tank. | |

| I removed the other 2 from the tank n put them in their own tank (which ironically, as its an emergency isolation tank, look a lot better than the main tank cause its just moss as substrate and a big fake plant looks great) But yeah i separated them out yesterday then stayed at my girlfriend just got back half an hour ago and had a wee peek and she had resumed birth, problem was she got startled again but i suppose shell get back to it as she didnt take a huge bolt like she did the other day, ill leave her alone for a week, just goin into the tank to gently spray the heat mat to keep the humidity up for the "pups" (liek calling them pups for sum reason:lol: ) What i find odd is how the mother wasnt really that fat when she started giving birth, but the other female (the one that startled her when i first discovered the birth) is A LOT fatter than the mother and she hasnt given birth yet, hope she does cause then ill have millions of babbas :D Another thing i noticed about the mother is she was wandering hte tank a lot during the day for the few days before she gave birth :S maybe lookin for somewhere to give birth in peace, she shouldve went under hte water dish where theres loads of tunnels n its nice n quiet, aw well lol | |

| Don't mist -- it does squat to help humidity and it's more startling than it needs to be. Just gently pour some water onto the substrate, being sure not to flood the tunnel that mom's hiding in. | |

| Shes not in a tunnel so its ok, and when i mist i just very gently and slowly press the trigger so it just tricles onto the heat mat, i dont blast it into the tank.
Just to check, the humidity should be at about 90% to make sure hte Babies dont dry up eh?
Cheers. | |

| Misting doesnt raise the humidity. You need to pour the water into the tank. The heat from the heat pad will continue to heat the entire tank and humidity will rise, no need to mist onto the heat mat | |

Too right! I can't believe how expensive their stuff is either, thank god I already had most of the stuff for a scorpion left over from my previous pets. Congratulations on the birth by the way! Sounds ace

| just had a wee check on the mother today after a couple days ofl eavin her alone, shes only got 5 live babies on her back and 3 are dead so thats makes a total brood size of only 8 aw well shouldnt have expected too much from her considerin she wasnt particularly fat before she gave birth. what do you reckon the chances are of all the babie surviving to their first moult? and after that their chances of surviving to adult? Cheers. | |

| there is a pretty high fatality rate for Emp scorplings, particularly if they are kept together. I started off with a brood of 16 - 17, by 3i only about 6 left, and now I only have to left, recently lost another 2 for unknown reasons. but the 2 I have left are super fit, super healthy, and aggro as hell. : D | |

| keep them seperate, and try not to let them dry out. keep them SUPER HUMID (not as much as they will have to swim to move around the tank lol) | |

| kk cheers, just wonderin what to keep them in and how to heat them, would a heat mat under half the tub, would cricket tubs work, you know, the more stronger thicker plastic ones with slits for vents, problem is i keep my baby stick insects in them and it dries out pretty quickly and theyre at room temperature. you tgot any pics of how you keep you babies separate n humid?
Cheers. | |

| cover the lid with cling film, with a few air holes, or put em in Tupperware wit a few holes in, works for me, no babies dead so far, as for heat my whole invert area is heated with lamps which keeps the temps good n warm | |

| young scorpions don't really need alot of space, as long as they have enough substrate to make a hearty burrow they'll be fine
