| setup looks good, although I would think he would like some more substrate.
as for the bulge.. looks like some sort of internal obstruction.

| Setup's fine, don't listen to S111 It's probably an impaction. No one's really sure what to do to fix them, and I have no idea what the prognosis is. | |

| Yeah I was gunna say I used almost the whole 8 quart bag. Thank you for your help there is tons of great information on this site. I was kinda worried about the lump when I noticed it, but it doesn't seem to bother'em so I guess its ok. | |

| Setup is fine, but in S111's defense, the emp is a burrowing scorp and can burrow quite deep, so adding some more soil wouldn't hurt it. Although it will do just great the way it is. Have no idea what the bulge can be, but I guess its not much to be done with it. :S If the scorp is doing fine, I guess its no problem. Hopefully. | |

| I do agree with S111 here lol Sorry mike haha but by the looks of the pic thats less than 4 inches of substrate, personally I like to see atleast 6 haha, but still yeah set up is fine. | |

| All my emps never burrowed more than a few inches. My P cav however dug to the bottom through a foot of dirt and false bottom.
Edit: I'm on Mike's side.

| In the wild these can burrow more than a foot. All my P's have always burrowed deep down only stopping when they reach the bottom and at times had quite amazing tunnels to move around in. | |

| In the wild they live in gigantic termite mounds and are at risk of getting eaten by meerkats. A 10-gallon tank isn't the wild.
My main reasons for thinking "it's enough substrate if they can make a decent burrow" are A) it's a waste of resources if you keep a lot of scorpions, and B) the deeper the substrate, the closer it is to the lid, the easier it is for a scorp to escape.

| Do we have to have the "it isnt in the wild debate" lol all ill say is that tank can easily have another 3 inches of substrate with no risk of escape, I find that the more substrate the better for mine, if I give them more it gets used. | |

| look, all I meant was a few inches wouldn't hurt. I didn't say there was anything wrong with the setup, it's absolutely fine. all my Emps are avid burrowers, usually going right down to the bottom of the setup. that's just why I said what I said. | |
