| so here it is, sat very nicely for me to get a close up pic, which from what graham had told me i was quite surprised to get. And it has been up to temperature for a few hours now so I was kinda expecting it to shoot out! Yet to be put into it's new home, will be doing that in a bit once kids are in bed, since these have the worst bite out of all the pokies so here it is, dinky leg and all lmao! Im sure he/she will be a right character for you! why do you think i like pokies... i like feisty inverts! anyhow no it's not mature, far from it lol. we think it's poss male due to it being more 'leggy' than his other striata. but we will know for certain when it sheds, so long as it doesn't screw up the exuvium! | |

| Wow...great close up...I know very little about T's. Are they similar in care requirements to scorpions? I want to start looking into different bugs...'pedes and mantis types look really interesting too. | |

| I think if you can keep scorpions successfully then going over to tarantula's isn't a problem. Just as long as you check out the requirements of each species. but the burrowing forest tarantula's are pretty much the same as keeping forest scorpions. good amount of substrate to burrow, same humidity and temperature.
Main difference is that tarantula's WILL climb up the glass!!! lol And they can bite you quicker than a scorpion can sting you.
but you find a lot of people who start with scorpions eventually go on to keeping tarantula's, and visa versa.

| Cool...I just don't seem to be as attracted to the Ts as I am to the scorpions. I definitely want to get a couple more scorpions. If I branch out I think it would be one of the mantis'...they look really cool, but I would have to learn a lot more.
I would not want a biting T...my slight arachnophobia would shoot right off the scale if one chomped down on me...lol. There are some very beautiful colors and patterns...who knows...maybe someday.

| lol do you know how many people i know who used to have that phobia. then they, or their partner bought them a tarantula... and it cured them over night! Now they have hundreds! I believe Mark Pennell from the BTS did that! but you can guarantee one thing, once you keep one sort of invert you invariably branch off to something else as well | |

| Not to get off-topic, but mantids aren't the best exotic pet to have. Yeah, they're beautiful, but only a small handful of species live over a year, there's very high mortality at the earlier nymph stages, and breeding in captivity is far more likely to end in cannibalism than it would in the wild. Oh, and with phobias, a woman once bought a few roaches to overcome a fear and wound up dealing a huge number of species online. But then she mysteriously disappeared from the internet. | |
