| I've been researching this idea for awhile now. I've read that there not the most communal species out there but some have had success keeping them together. I really want to attempt a communal setup with say, 3 or 4 H.arizonensis. I understand the risks and am prepared to separate them if need be. I have a 40 gallon (roughly 36'x16"x16") enclosure at my disposal. would this be a big enough enclosure to attempt this? i understand that I should provide plenty of hides and keep close watch over them. If anyone with experience in this matter could offer their advice, it would be greatly appreciated! -Chris | |

| I know Eddy has them communally but i don't know if he'll be back in the next week. all i know is if the enclosure is big enough. Ive heard of people keeping 2 in a ten gallon but to be safe id go bigger. so for a 40gal Id go with 3 or 4. Make sure the scorpions are the same size. try to go with opposite sexes, make sure not to go with multiple males. make sure there's Plenty of hides and digging sand. and remember these guys are aggressive. | |

thanks! yes i know bout eddies communal setup. he did pop in a little earlier and i was hoping he would give his input but he must've been busy. it will be a few weeks before i can even order anything. so hopefully i can get his input by then. just want to have as much info as possible before hand... i play to use a deep layer of sand and excavator sand mixed as a sub. 70/30 mix..a good 6 inches deep... and have tons of hides! oh, and thanks for not telling me how i should NOT attempt this! lol! thats seems to be response im getting on AB right now.

| That ought to be large enough. Your sand setup sound spot-on (70% regular sand, 30% excavator). With a tank that large be sure to give it lots of time to dry out completely.
A tip on hides: sometimes they adopt them quicker if you put something like a flat rock over a "starter" hide such as a shallow depression. That kick-started mine into burrowing mode when it wouldn't dig one otherwise.

| I have 2 adult male H. arizonensis in a 10 gallon tank with 4 different hides and plenty of burrowing substrate (a fifth hide is currently being excavated by one of them). It's interesting... they each keep to one side of the tank. If they do happen to trespass on the other's turf, they touch claws and scurry back to their own zone. They've been living together for 3 weeks now. So far so good. I have heard that it is best to keep them the same sex being that the females sometimes consume the males.... | |
