| Ok this is to find out whats up today as opposed to 15-20 yrs ago.. Yes Im a bit older, LOL So I am reading about beetles as clean up crews and scorps feeding on them? What are they exactly? I also was considering colonies of springtails in the sunbstrate for some of the tropical species like they do with baby Dendrobates ( posion arrow frogs). Anyone have any experience with these? How do you feed your baby roaches- smaller speices I am mainly looking for. Back in the day and as I read even today it was Pin heads and fruit flys. I also breed Hisser, dubia, lobster, and Turkish roaches but am looking for variety. I keep Thousands of mealworms also. I have LOTS of reptiles, Amphibians, turtles, and birds... Ok I have babbled enough. Any help would be greatly apreciated..... | |

| there are a variety of things you could feed them, fruitflies, cricket or roach nymphs, or even headcrushed larger crickets.
those "cleanup crew bugs" you are talking about are probably pill bugs, or whatever you call them. I've never used them. and I don't know much about springtails.. are they good for scorps?

| Yeah I suspect pillbugs but want to make sure. The springtails are awesome for frogs and I suspect would be great for scorps and T slings as well but want to know if anyone has tried them. I am going to order some next week and I will post my results. Thanks for replying.. | |

| I've heard some people use springtails. I've found them randomly in some of my tanks and didn't really notice any difference.
If you don't have fruitflies, I find that most young scorps can take baby dubia, but it can sometimes be a pain to keep the dubia from burrowing. I usually have to headcrush and leave them twitching if the scorp doesn't go for it right away.

| Fruitflies are easy enough to come by and I dont have any babies ready to feed yet. just some hanging out on Mom. I have ordered fruit fly cultures already to get them going. I am soooo excited since getting back into this I have bought around 30 scorps and am looking for many more in the near future. I dont think in the last 15 yrs or so since I was so heavy into them that a whole lot has changed, just more species and info about the speices available.. Its sad that Inverts havent taken the same leaps as the Herps species I work with. Thanks for all the info and keep it coming. | |
