PostSubject: Scorpio Maurus Palmatus?   Scorpio Maurus Palmatus? Empty11/30/2008, 4:02 pm

I have doubts....Is this a scorpio Maurus Palmatus. Its sulking at the moment and not very responsive. I couldnt seem to get a good clear picture with my camera phone. Will pop some pics in, some better then the other. Its small. I saw an "adult" which was really "Yellow" but I didnt want that one, I liked the look of this one...meant to be sold as a scorpio maurus palmatus. Size I would say...hmmm...C Keyserlingi size....maybe a bit smaller.... I will measure but ive just put the little one next to a heat mat...maybe its cold

Anyhoo

it does look like a Scorpio maurus, the only thing that looks a tad different is the metasoma... it is a little chunkier than my SMP's. but that may be the camera angle and the fact that both my SMP are really fat! and therefore their tails look rather puny!

Other than that the colouration looks about right, the brown granulation on the peds and the darkened last metasoma segment.

Even if it isn't the palmatus... there are soooooooo many scorpio maurus it is easy to mistake one sub species for another!

theres a good chance it is anyway.... theres hundreds of these about at the moment sellers are virtually giving them away, tarantulabarn had 5 for £20 at one point to get rid of them!

ok. that said. its due to be rehomed this weekend. Have a sand bottom and just under a 50/50 mix of sand and cocofibre. need to buy more. WILL do a full mix and start again with a sand bottom...then a 50 50 mix and then a 20/80 mix on the top of sand and coco fibure but im thinking TOP should be more sand then coco fibre. am I correct?

This little one has had a feed Smile very pleased but seems quite jumpy...not suprised since the other day the kittens were after the little one, thankfully the container is LOCKED between two tarantula tanks. we NEED to get the room secured because they keep breaking in!

yes more sand at the top. mine are still doing great Smile

and watch out for it jumping. they're good at that! mine does it nearly every time I go in to feed it! They're like little jack russels, tiny but think they're the size of a german shepherd.

Their aggression is kinda cute especially with them being such a small scorpion Smile

lol I think they have too much stock... they had hundreds of emps at the leeds show... I think they have had too good a breeding season!

AND NOT COMMUNAL! you MAY get away with it if they have loads of space but I wouldn't risk it after what happened with mine!
