| So I had a recent idea pop into my head . . . that idea is to get rid of all but one of the species I currently have and focus only on U. mordax.
Is this crazy? It would free up a lot of room, and out of all the scorpions I've had, I've had the best luck with these guys (at least, they're the only species where I've had a brood make it to 2I and live).
Current roster of species: Androctonus amoreuxi Androctonus mauritanicus Centruroides hentzi Centruroides margaritatus Centruroides vittatus Diplocentrus lindo Hadogenes paucidens Hadrurus arizonensis Heterometrus longimanus Hottentotta judaicus Pandinus cavimanus Pandinus imperator Paruroctonus boreus Paruroctonus gracilior Tityus stigmerus Coming soon Uroctonus mordax Vaejovis spinigerus
Species since past: Babycurus jacksoni Heterometrus laoticus Mesobuthus martensii
I'm honestly tempted to keep the H. longimanus if I do this simply because they're so huge and make great display specimens.

| noooo!!!! I would get rid of all of them, maybe a few, but not all! eventually it will get reeeaaallly boring with just one species.
p.s if you are getting rid of them, I would happily take : Androctonus amoreuxi,Androctonus mauritanicus, and all you centruroides, and the hottentotta. and the Vaejovis spinigerus.
jk, of course. don't get rid of them!!!

| I'd probably find homes for a few specifics that I have mentally lined-up, but the rest would likely get sold. I should have specified in my original post that this wasn't a "who wants what?" thread. | |

| OH OH I want it all...LOL. It all depends on what you wanna do Mike. I personally can handle breeding a large number with few deaths. But if you cant then theres no point in keeping so many species. | |

| Well if your wanting to concentrate on 1 species then possibly downsize yes... but dont get rid of them all!
TBH i think you would end up kicking yourself if you did! Just way up what commitments you want with your scorpions. But i agree you may get bored with keeping only one species. As much as i love scorpions I could never have just one species... I need a few!

| i really think you will come to regret it if you only have one species. some of those scorps will be quite hard to get if you want them again | |

| So I've been thinking about it a bit more . . . I love my A. mauritanicus, but I think that they and a few more of my thermophillic species just don't have it warm enough here to develop properly. None of my H. judaicus have made it to 3I, and they should have ages ago. And it's just kind of hard to keep north-African equivalent supplemental heat going on when the collection is a gigantic shelving unit full of tanks.
If I were to do this, I'd probably send the mauris to FauxShow because he was looking for males (and that's all I have).
I also have a couple gravid scorps that I'd want to deal with the young before sending them anywhere (so they at least don't pop en-route).

| I would keep all your scorpions. Having a variety of species is what makes this hobby interesting to me. Even Luc and others like him still have a few species although they have species specific studies going on. I just had one of my eight H. judaicus pass during molt but two have made it. Things happen... thing of it like a challenge and not a burden. | |

| I've been thinking about it more -- the two in my collection that appeal to me the most are U. mordax and H. longimanus. The second of those, despite being tropical, have been growing well in my care. Both species are communal as well, so I could easily have two nice display tanks instead of a hodgepodge of delicups and kritter keepers.
Species I'm seriously considering getting rid of: A. mauritanicus A. amoreuxi H. judaicus H. paucidens
Most of those it's simply not warm enough in my collection for them to develop, and the current arrangement leaves no room for supplemental heating. I also feel like I've turned into a bit of a scorpion packrat.
I might also keep my P. boreus simply because it's another Oregon native, but they're not communal.

| yeah I suppose you could get rid of a few, just as long as you've got a bit of variety in your collection. I think it would be really boring just having 1 sp. | |

| We don't have much room. Lori and I are in a one-bedroom apartment with all our stuff and all our bugs, and until I graduate, we can't really afford to expand things.
A few years down the line, when I can afford it, I'd love to build the collection back up with display tanks for each species. I don't think the downsize would be permanent.

| It's already stacked: It's gotten a little more crowded since I took that picture. If we had a house we could devote one room just to inverts and have enough space for multiple shelves with supplimental heat to all the desert species and keeping the room itself warm enough for everyone. | |
