Yep, it was cotton. They love ears.

I only got stung once, and that was during the "jump up and backwards to shake most of them off" phase. One of my hands landed on my thigh right where a bee just landed.

lol how ironic that youd get stung like that, instead of while all of them are on you, do they use pheromones or honey or someething to get them to go on you like that?

the only time iv ever been stung it was always my fault, they always landed on me and id put my hand on them and stupid things like that, altho wasps are nasty, one flew down my shirt and stung me loads of time lol, i think they just get nasty when its time for them to die lol

Normally they use queen pheromones from a colony that's been queenless for a few days. By the time we showed up they were done doing the beards so they didn't have any more pheromones -- instead they just hung the queen from my neck. That's her personal cage you see in the second picture.

Honeybees aren't that aggressive, and there weren't a lot on the back of my neck, so it wasn't a problem untying her. They just had me lean way over so they could lift her off easier.
