I have a P Cavimanus in approximately 6 inches of substrate in as a natural environment as I could set up. First 2 weeks I had her she was exploring from 21.00 on the nose every night, tap, tap, tap on the glass with her massive red claws. I came down stairs one morning and she had burrowed down under her half log. Luckily its front on to the enclosure but its dog leg and she spends most of her time past the 90 degree angle! Like you say I know she eats too cause the crickets disappear and if I'm really lucky and come down at midnight she is at the entrance to the hole!
Having a pet hole in my lounge causes much amusement to many a guest but such is the life of being a scorpion owner I have learned!
Trawling this site in particular has helped me understand so much about the hobby.
Hasn't put me off one bit, I'm off to the British Tarantula Show show in May, I know they have scorps there cause I emailed them! Hoping to find me a decent desert set up!
Good luck with yours!
