On an outing with Smokehound today, I got tagged by a gravid female A. pococki that I dug out. I don't think she meant to sting me though. As I was nudging her forward, I felt a quick needlelike sensation in my finger. The pain never registered, just a slight stinging at first and after a second or two very slight tenderness that was gone within five minutes. I think it was a dry sting that was caused by me hitting her stinger, not her defending herself. I've never witnessed this species strike anything with their telsons. Their burrows don't have enough space for their metasomas to be maneuvered, so they compensate by having very large and powerful pincers.
