Western Sahara

A friend of mine is currently in morrocco on a 4x4 rally to the western sahara. I have asked him to look out for scorps for me.

What species may he be able to find there?

He might find Androctonus sp, very dangerous, highly venomous, so caution is advised!
Also it would be good to check out the local export laws.

LOADS!!!! Morocco/Western Sahara would be an amazing place to go scorpion hunting. A number of Androctonus spp., lots of Buthus spp., Buthacus spp. various sub-species of Scorpio maurus (I think many of these have now be given species status), plus a number of other species from different genera.

There's a lot of 'hot' species there so tell him to be careful.

An easy and safe way to collect scorpions there would probably be with cup traps. Take some plastic or smooth cups, and bury them in the ground up to their rim in suspected locations. Do this in the evening, and come back and check them at dawn. Foraging scorpions will fall into the cups and not be able to climb back out, then you can simply and safely pull the cup out of the ground.

That would work?

It works. I have seen that method employed on TV programmes. Assuming it is not all faked, then for sure it works.

Of course they work. It's a pitfall trap. I thought everyone did these for they're bug project back in 'little' school.
