Just enough to cover the infected area. Not sure about the frequency, as a start try 1-2 times a week.

Yes let us know how it works! Perhaps you could change the substrate to something that would not stick as much to the vasoline? Maybe washed aquarium gravel or something else with a larger size that would not be dusty???
