Moving

Ok, I will be moving in the next 6 weeks. 700 miles from where i am now, how should I go about transporting my Scorpions? Im thinking the Desert ones could be kept in their enclosures, just making sure that I take anything out that could shift and hurt them on the trip. But the Emps have a burrow dug and im worried that the bumps and vibrations will collapse the burrow. So I dont think I should keep them in their enclosure.

When Scorps are shipped via mail, how are they packaged? Do I need to use large deli tubs with maybe some paper towel on the bottom so they dont slide all over?

I remember seeing them getting shipped in large plastic tubs with newspaper or as you said, paper towel. i believe that would work. Good Luck on your move and b safe

Actually, i'd say this is precisely what you don't want to do...Or rather...the plastic tub/container should be proportionately sized to the size of the scorpion...Ideally any container used for transporting scorpions through the post will be just a little larger than the scorpion..The more free space there is between scorp and walls of container the greater the risk of said scorp being damaged...Also the paper really needs to be reasonably compact if it's to be of any use..

I'd prefer to use kitchen roll as it's softer and shapes easily. Plus dependant on specie you'd want to either keep the paper dry, slightly moist or moist.

No...not just on the bottom...all around....just putting paper on the bottom of the container wouldn't be much help at all...the whole point of it is to cocoon the scorp in so as to stop it being jostled about....a side bonus is that the paper also dampens vibrations thus minimizing stress.

For scorps being sent through the post the perfect setup would be a small plastic container well padded on the inside with kitchen roll so that just a small cocoon of empty space was in the middle of the paper, just sufficient for the scorp to be placed in....35 mm camera film containers are great for small adults and instars of many species...If you're packaging a lot of scorps then all those small containers would then be placed in a larger container or box which in turn would also be well padded with newspaper or the like....and oh yeh, mustn't forget....air holes!...air holes in the individual scorpion containers..

Although having said all that, those precautions are usually only needed if you're sending through postal systems as packages can often receive quite a bit of a beasting....If you're driving with them then i'd imagine it'd be sufficient to just place your scorps in individual containers (not to large) and then place those in a box and then either drive with the box on the passenger seat or else place it somewhere where you know it won't get bumped around..

Excellent, so if I put some on the bottom of the containers say, that I brought them home in. Which are pretty much a lil bigger than the scorps themselves, and cover with another towel, I should be safe. And with them in the front of the vehicle with cabin heat on, they should do with out any warmers? Whats the average temp in the car with the heat on? Cause im thinking ill be fully cooked if I need to keep it at 90 F for 12 hours lol. With the emps, im assuming they should have damp kitchen paper towels?

It's not going to hurt them if the temps drop now and again during the journey..
